"Deeply grieved by news of the loss of life and grave injuries caused by the act of violence perpetrated last evening in Boston, His Holiness Pope Francis wishes me to assure you of his sympathy and closeness in prayer. In the aftermath of this senseless tragedy, His Holiness invokes God’s peace upon the dead, his consolation upon the suffering and his strength upon all those engaged in the continuing work of relief and response. At this time of mourning the Holy Father prays that all Bostonians will be united in a resolve not to be overcome by evil, but to combat evil with good (cf. Rom 12:21), working together to build an ever more just, free and secure society for generations yet to come."
Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone
Secretary of State
Focusing today on combating evil with good
by praying and performing random acts of kindness.
Our prayers are with you, Boston.

Should a Low Dose of a Generic Anti-Depressant be Available Over the Counter?
Safer in use and overdose than most other OTC meds. Not addictive.
Will help people with mild anxiety, depression, post-traumatic symptoms, shyness,
performance anxiety, premature ejaculation. Most
do not want to undergo the trouble and expense of formal treatment.
The analogy is to having a cold, then treat yourself, having
pneumonia, get help.
H: Major depression
is analogous to pneumonia or a bone fracture, not
to a cut or a cold. People should get help.
Dilip: Your suggestion is more complex than an inpatient
stay in a mental hospital. Violentv: No 20 mg Prozac,
a scary drug, not for amateurs. More likely Celexa 10 mg, at 10 cents
a pill. Ray: Correct. Drug companies, and rent seeking
shrink guilds will flip out at cheap self-help. They will set an army of $600/hour
lawyers to block this into forever. The question today is not
about politics, but about helping the public
with under-treated, mild problems.
