Our new entertainment

We got cows, ya'll!

The big open hayfield behind our backyard has now become a fenced cow pasture. The cows have been coming right up to the fence and trying to get my vegetables! We get the biggest kick out of watching them, especially the new babies in the herd. They even have two donkeys mixed in with the cows.
It's so funny watching the boys watch the cows. They call to them and approach them like they are dogs. They just don't understand why the cows won't come to them and let them pet them! I really hope they get used to us...maybe a ripe tomato off the vine will persuade them that we're not so bad after all.

  1. The donkeys are probably there as guard-donkeys. They will bray nice and loud if coyotes try and get the calves.

I can't believe you didn't mention the obvious benefit to having cows right there.

    MANURE!!

After the patties dry in the sun for a while send the boys out to gather a few up for you. Just make sure they don't do what a couple mischeivious boys I know did, put dried cow patties in their sister's BED.

P.S. I'm going to do the topsy turvy pots, I think that is the cutest thing. I'll probably do flowers though as I can't keep strawberry plants alive for the life of me.

  2. "Guard donkeys" I LOVE that! They bray so loud when they get separated! I would have never thought of that! I also didn't think about the manure! A couple of good patties will be awesome in my compost. Boy, I'm sure glad you stopped by today!
